Hello from Mrs. Washburne!
DSCN2109
Mrs. Johnson, Ms. Smith and Mrs. Washburne
I have worked at Hancock since 1997. I started here as an ELL teacher and in 2008 began to work as a fifth grade classroom teacher. My teaching career actually began in 1994 when I taught fifth grade in Honduras while in the Peace Corps. I have always enjoyed learning about other cultures, and as a teacher at Hancock I never need to travel to experience new worlds!

Before I became a teacher I went to the University of Minnesota for my undergraduate degree in International Development. After college I went into the Peace Corps and had the opportunity to teach. By the time I came back to the U.S. I knew I wanted to work with elementary aged students, so I began to pursue my teaching credentials. I got my Master’s in Bilingual and Elementary Education from the University of New Mexico, and when I returned to Minnesota, I went to Hamline to get my ELL, Spanish and Regular Education licenses.

I love working with kids, and am energized by their enthusiasm. I look forward to each day that I come to work! Thanks for making the choice of sending your son or daughter to Hancock. It's an amazing school, and I am very proud to be a part of it.
