I have been teaching sixth
grade for 19 years with the last 13 years at Hancock. Besides
Minnesota, I have also taught in California and North Dakota. I really
enjoy the students and families that come through Hancock.
In my classroom, I use a money management behavior system. Within the
system, each student has a classroom job that contributes to the
classroom community. Students earn and lose "Lein Money" throughout the
year for their behavior. Each student learns how to manage his/her own
classroom checkbook.
I teach all curricular areas. Everyday Math is
6th Grade Teacher Mr. Lein
taught during Math
Workshop. Calendar Math and Math Skills are also done each day to
introduce and reinforce concepts. In social studies, students are
introduced to ancient civilizations. Some of the civilizations that are
covered include Mesopotamia, Egypt and Rome. Weekly geography is also
done to work on map skills. Throughout the units of study, students
create projects as one form of assessment. Reading and writing also
follow the workshop model. In reading, students learn different
strategies that are then practiced during guided reading groups and
independent reading.
Working hard!!!!
In writing, students use a writer's notebook to
gather and work on ideas.
I graduated from Jamestown College in 1990 with a degree in Elementary Education and Physical Education. I earned my Master's Degree from Saint Mary's University. I continue to take classes within the district to keep up with new ideas and strategies.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy going to all types of sporting events. I try to find time to golf and fish as much as I can during the summer months.
