Meet Mrs. Larson
larson
When I was in elementary school I loved to read books and I did that at Hancock School.  This is where I went to school and now I am a teacher at the same place.  However, the school that I attended was a large, two story, brownstone building with offices on the second floor.  We had classes like shop for the boys and home economics for the girls.  That is where we learned to cook and sew.  The first addition to that building was the first grade wing, the current offices, and the cafeteria.  But then, that old building was torn down.  The large building on Snelling was built in its place.  Then came the rec center and gym, and finally the learning center was added.  Hancock has really grown and changed over the years.

In the summer my family loves to go to our cabin at the lake.  There we relax, enjoy the water, go skiing and fishing.  My grandchildren keep me busy reading books to them and enjoying the beach and water.  My garden keeps me busy with planting and tending flowers in the summer.  Each year the flower beds get a little larger with more plants to water and weed.

I graduated from college with a B.A. and went on to get my M.A.  After that degree I continued to take additional classes to be a better teacher of reading, writing, and early literacy strategies.  Most of my teaching years have been first grade.  It is a busy and active grade but probably the most rewarding in helping young children move from drawing and speaking to reading and writing.  I get excited everyday as I watch the magic of reading come alive for new readers as they discover how to crack the code of print and understand text.  A new world opens for each one as students develop independence and success in reading.  How exciting it is to help students begin a journey of reading!
